Weaving into Home Textiles with the Latest Botanical Venture
We’re living life in the floral fast lane here, let me tell you.
The past week has seen Mum (that’s Sarah, to everyone but me) overjoyed at the delivery of the first rolls of her brand new fabric. She’s been itching to embark on designing a new range of botanical textiles and this arrival heralded an important step in the journey.
From the peaceful sanctuary of my basket I’ve witnessed Mum draping the fabric over cushions, dangling it next to tea towels in the kitchen and even wrapping it around herself apron-style, her face scrunched discerningly as she visualised the different products that she could design. The classic monochrome illustrations of the Sarah Horne Botanicals brand already adorn the blinds against our windows, and it now seems the concept is being extended into the luxurious world of high-quality soft furnishings and home interior finishing touches.
Perhaps I’ll one day be lying on an elegant bed covered in those signature intricate drawings. Yes, I’d like to think that my sophisticated basket makeover is next in line. For now I’ll have to make do with stealing Mum’s favourite throw off the sofa – I’ve mastered the art of this one in about 10 seconds flat, I’m rather proud of myself! Alas, my opulent wallowing never lasts very long as Mum is always quick to notice and reclaim it.
The first glimpse of the fabric is now hanging in the studio – a teaser until the designs and products are finalised.
And so, as Mum nurtures another branch on the ever-growing tree of the Botanicals business, the spring in her step gets even stronger. There is nothing that excites this busy lady more than a new creative inspiration!
It’s difficult to keep up sometimes. I think I’ll take a nap.
